前回は“Throwback Thursday”について触れたが、“throw”（投げる）という言葉には、その他日ごろ使う言葉としての使い道がたくさんあるので、ここで紹介しておきたい。

◆Throw back　懐かしいもの
That song is a throw back from the 90’s! 「その曲は90年代の懐メロだね！」

◆Throw up　もどす(吐く)
I must have eaten something bad. I was throwing up so much last night. 「何か悪いものでも食ったに違いない。昨日の夜は吐きまくりだった」

◆Throw out　投げ捨てる
Are you throwing out your old clothes? 「古着は捨てるつもりなの？」
“throw out” は「追い出す」「追放する」という意味にもなる。
The parents decided to throw him out of the house. 「両親は彼を家から追い出すことにした」

◆Throw a party　パーティーをする
My parents threw a party for me last week for my graduation. 「わたしの両親は卒業したお祝いにパーティーをしてくれた」

◆Throw me off 　困惑させる、狼狽させる
The question he asked me totally threw me off and I didn’t know what to say on the spot. 「彼の質問のせいで完全にあたふたしてしまって、とっさになんて言っていいのかわからなかった」

◆Throw away　捨て去る、無駄にする
Don’t throw your life away. 「自分の命を無駄にしてはいけない」
The team threw away an opportunity to tie the game. 「チームはゲームを同点にするチャンスをみすみす逃してしまった」

　簡単そうに見えて、なかなか慣れるまでは使いこなすことのできない表現、言葉自体は簡単なので、ぜひ覚えて活用していただきたい。
